Frequently Asked Questions: Get Answers Here

FAQ #1: Are you accepting new patients?

All our therapists are accepting Arizona new clients. All appointments are virtual (online). We do not offer in-person appointments.

All U.S. health care providers are limited to practicing only in the state(s) in which they are licensed. Each state has slightly different requirements. Very few health care providers are licensed in all 50 states. This may be confusing because the states dropped this restriction during the pandemic, allowing any licensed health care provider to treat any patient, regardless of location. Now that the emergency measures have ended, the licensing laws are no longer suspended.

You may have also heard about multi-state agreements to accept providers with out-of-state licensure without requiring a separate license, such a Psy-Pact and Counseling Compact. Psy-Pact is only available to psychologists with an LP license. Counseling Compact is available to counselors with an LMHC or LPC license who live in a state that has signed the Compact. Thirty-four states have signed the compact and many more have pending legislation. In 2025, licensed counselors who are residents of Compact states will have the opportunity to request permission to provide telehealth counseling to all Compact states. If you would like to know more or find out if your state is in the Compact, please visit CounselingCompact.org.

We are based in Arizona and have therapists who are licensed in Arizona, Utah, Kansas, Iowa, Vermont, and Florida. At this time, we are accepting new clients in Arizona only. If you live in a different state, we are happy to provide referrals to our colleagues licensed in your state.

FAQ #2: Do you accept my insurance?

There are many variables that determine insurance plan coverage. In order to determine if we are able to accept your insurance plan, a copy of your insurance card, front and back, is required. Please contact us for an insurance determination. We accept several insurance plans and offer private pay and courtesy filing of out-of-network claims through Mentaya. You can learn more about this service by viewing our Paying for Therapy page.

FAQ #3: What is the free consultation?

The free consultation is a brief, no cost, no obligation opportunity for us to meet, discuss our expectations, and decide if we’re a good fit for working together. This is your chance to ask all those non-therapy, administrative questions about appointments, costs, time involved, etc. It also gives you a chance to test the connection and get a feel for what virtual therapy is like. A consultation usually lasts 20-30 minutes and takes place on the same secure platform used for therapy sessions.

FAQ #4: How do I schedule my first appointment?

Once you’ve met your therapist and agreed to work together, you will receive three emails.

  1. Invitation to join our Client Portal
  2. Invitation to complete Intake forms
  3. Request for a copy of your insurance card, front & back

Once you have access to the Client Portal, you may view your therapist’s available appointment times and choose on that works best for you. Your therapist will receive a message that you have requested an appointment and will either confirm the time (most common) or contact you with alternate times.

Once confirmed, you will receive an email or text confirmation and also email, phone, or text reminders before the appointment. The method and frequency of reminders is based on the preferences you choose in the Client Portal.
